Mercy Hospital was formerly a 550,000 square-foot hospital facility, located in a blighted neighborhood of East Detroit. The repurposed facility has been rebranded as the Samaritan Center. Working for Trinity Health, Dynamis led the effort in repurposing the hospital into a multi-use facility to provide needed healthcare and non-healthcare community services. Tenants include, among others, healthcare providers, education institutions, social services providers, and convenience retail enterprises.
Under the management of a not-for-profit organization, the center is home to approximately 70 not-for-profit organizations called “partners.” The combination of health, social, educational, and retail services, housed within one facility, further incentivized continued federal, local, and private assistance for neighborhood services. Over 250 one-on-one interviews were conducted with community representatives, social service agencies, churches, community development organizations, affordable housing developers, primary care providers, political representatives, foundations and others. |
