The Milford Wellness Village is an innovative, multi-use development initiative committed to provide integrated health, education, housing and other services to the City of Milford, Kent and Sussex Counties, and the State of Delaware. Coordinated services will be provided by a select mix of like-minded organizations and tenants who equally share the desire to improve the health and well-being of area residents and reduce overall costs. Plans for the Village have been carefully designed based on interviews with the community. Village components and tenant placement have been determined based on traditional town planning principles and are designed to maximize the user experience.
The Milford Wellness Village is a prime example of a transformation in a rural town which has moved from feasibility to implementation. Key constructs are:
- The base building while no longer feasible for a modern-day short-term acute care hospital is being efficiently transformed for uses described in the diagram below for a fraction of the cost of building new.
- The uses can be generally categorized around the concept of 1) “supportive housing” of varying acuity levels ranging from high acuity such as non-acute care (skilled and behavioral health) to low acuity such as workforce and independent senior housing being planned on 10 acres on the campus and in the neighborhoods; and 2) supportive services listed - each impacting different aspects of the SDOH.
- We believe all types of supportive housing are needed in every community for the communities to be healthy and sustainable.
- The traditional town which is located within walking distance is benefiting from the growing employment center of the transformed hospital.
