Detroit, MI
In 2000, the former 550,000 square foot Mercy Hospital in East Detroit transformed into the Samaritan Center, a multi-use facility. Dynamis led the repurposing effort for Trinity Health. Tenants include healthcare providers, education institutions, social services providers, and retail enterprises. Managed by a single purpose not-for-profit organization that Dynamis helped create, the Samaritan Center houses approximately 70 partner organizations and remains viable two and a half decades later. Trinity leased back space for the operation of a primary care center. The combination of health, social, educational, and retail services attracted federal, local, and private assistance. Over 250 interviews were conducted with various community representatives, organizations, and stakeholders.
